WHO WE ARE
SURA-MAMA meaning grandmothers’ house in Fulfulde language is a Mbororo community development association created and officially recognized by the Government of the Republic of Cameroon in June 2005 as ASSOCIATION DES RESSORTISSANT MBORORO. (Authorization N°538/1/C19/BAPP of 07 June 2005)
SURA-MAMA operates at the national level in Cameroon with the head office in Douala.
Work is guided by a strategic framework with annual work plans based the mbororo community’s priorities and focused on mbororo women & girls socio – economic empowerment, leadership, capacity building and Environmental protection.
SURA-MAMA is affiliated to some regional networks like REPALEAC (The Network of Indigenous and local
populations for the sustainable Management Forest Ecosystem in Central Africa), assuming the post of the treasury and acting as the focal point organization representing the network in the working group on Biodiversity
(GTBAC). GTBAC is a thematic working group on biodiversity for the Commission of central African forest (COMIFAC) countries in Central Africa. Affiliated to ROSCEVAC (The Civil Society Network for Green Economy in Central Africa), African Indigenous Women organizations, Cameroon climate change working group and PACJA

Empowered Indigenous Mbororo women and girls acting as agents of social, economic, cultural, political, and environmental transformation in their families, communities, and Cameroon.
MISSION
To serve as an intermediation platform for Indigenous women and girls through education, training, advocacy, environmental protection, and resource mobilization to guarantee the realization of their full potential.

We empower communities around the Douala–Edea National Park through One Health education, linking human health, animal health, and environmental protection for sustainable development.
We strengthen indigenous Mbororo women through leadership training, movement building, digital skills, and institutional capacity development.

We work with communities to protect ecosystems, preserve biodiversity, and promote sustainable management of natural resources.

We support indigenous pastoralist communities through land rights advocacy, conflict resolution dialogue, and sustainable livelihood development.

OUR PARTICIPATION IN INTERNATIONAL EVENTS
SURA-MAMA Participates in AIWO Strategic Planning Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya (19–23 December 2021)
Held from 8–12 May 2023 in Congo Brazzaville, this landmark forum brought together indigenous and local community representatives to exchange knowledge, strengthen collaboration, and promote inclusive strategies for biodiversity conservation and climate change resilience. The forum was organized under the patronage of the Minister of Forest Economy of the Republic of Congo, reinforcing high-level political commitment to indigenous-led environmental stewardship. First Forum of Indigenous and Local Communities in Central Africa and the Congo Basin on Biodiversity Conservation and Climate Resilience
SURA-MAMA proudly took part in the AIWO Strategic Planning Meeting held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 19th to 23rd December 2021 — a significant continental gathering that brought together Indigenous women leaders and organizations from across Africa to strengthen collaboration, define shared priorities, and shape a collective vision for the future. The meeting convened representatives from Cameroon, Uganda, Niger, Burkina Faso, Tanzania, Sudan, Kenya, and South Africa, reflecting the diversity and strength of Indigenous women’s movements across the South, East, West, and Central African regions.. SURA-MAMA proudly participated in the Africa Protected Areas Congress (APAC) held from 18 to 23 July 2023 at the Kigali Convention Center in Rwanda — a landmark continental gathering dedicated to the future of protected and conserved areas in Africa. Capacity Building workshop for Mbororo girls and women on leadership and online communication in Douala littoral regiion- Cameroon
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
To enhance the institutional capacity of SURA-MAMA organization through the reviewing
of organizational policies and procedures (Development of strategic work plan, conflict
resolution manual, financial procedure manual, review of status).
To train 15 Mbororo women organizations on social movement building, forming of coali-
tions and networking in 2 regions.The institutional capacity of SURA-MAMA organization was enhanced, as the organizatio-
nal policies and procedures were developed in a participatory approach with a clear strate-
gic work plan, conflict resolution manual, financial procedure manual and 20 members
trained on online communication.
