SURA-MAMA is an indigenous women-led organization dedicated to empowering Mbororo women and girls in Cameroon. We work to strengthen women’s leadership, protect land and environmental rights, promote the One Health approach, and advance biodiversity conservation through community-driven action. By building knowledge, capacity, and strong partnerships, SURA-MAMA supports indigenous women to claim their voices, improve livelihoods, and contribute meaningfully to sustainable development, social justice, and resilient communities rooted in dignity, culture, and collective strength.

Environmental protection initiatives through Restoration by planting of cattle friendly grasses in savannah grass field in the west region to fight against the invasive alien species locally called “BUCCASSA” grass.

OUR ONE HEALTH CAMPAIGN
The One Health approach recognizes the strong interconnection between human health, animal health, and environmental health, emphasizing that the wellbeing of people is directly linked to how we interact with animals and manage our environment. In line with this understanding, the project was designed and implemented to improve awareness, knowledge, and community capacity around One Health within the Edea Park neighboring communities and the Douala–Edea Protected Area.

Objective 1 aimed to increase the understanding and awareness of at least 70% of Edea Park neighboring communities by the end of the project. To achieve this, several key activities and innovations were implemented.

Project Goal
This project aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of SURA-MAMA while supporting the growth and movement building of Mbororo indigenous women organizations in Cameroon, enabling them to organize, lead, and advocate more effectively for their rights and development.
Project Objectives
The project seeks to enhance the institutional effectiveness of SURA-MAMA through the review and development of key organizational policies and procedures, including a strategic work plan, conflict resolution manual, financial procedures manual, and updated organizational statutes. It also aims to train 15 Mbororo women organizations in social movement building, coalition formation, and networking across two regions.
Project Results
As a result of this project, SURA-MAMA’s institutional capacity was strengthened through a participatory process that produced a clear strategic work plan, conflict resolution manual, financial procedures manual, and improved organizational systems. Additionally, 20 members were trained in online communication, and 15 Mbororo women organizations from the Littoral and West Regions were empowered with skills in social movement building, coalition development, and networking.
